Late November and the fields are…dry!

It’s late November and the regular downpour has turned to a mini drought. It has been the driest November on Banks Peninsula since records began.

That means our “normal” plans have had to be thrown out the window. The dry weather is perfect for lavender and some growers are contemplating picking flowers now, weeks earlier than normal.

The first buds of October

The first buds of October are developing well. Pacific Blue buds lead the way as it always does. The flowers should be out in early November (depending of course on the weather) and for this species at their peak in mid December.

Spring has sprung

Spring has sprung in the lavender fields. The first signs of growth started around three weeks ago and the new growth is now rapidly taking hold. Spring of course means the weeds are also starting to grow. Our mulched glass (see last months post) keeps some weeds away, but in light of our organic thinking, we hand weed our plants. Beginnings – the early days

In this post we thought we’d take you back to the early days of our lavender journey.

We first planted lavender on the steepest and driest paddock on the property. This paddock which contained over 1,000 plants has now, some seventeen years later, been allowed to revert back to native bush.

Seven years ago we started developing a new area for lavender. […] Read more…

Creating your own lavender based aroma

Winter is a great time to experiment with your own lavender based aroma.

We find Pacific Blue is a great oil for mixing. It’s aroma is very different from the traditional lavender you might associate with your grandmother!

We thinks it associates well with New Zealand’s brand 100% Pure. The aroma is fresh, different and definitely Pacific!
